Day 6 - Villefranche-sur-Mer and Cap Ferrat
Once again we are traveling to a location where European aristocracy and international millionaires vacation. Cap-Ferrat may have some of the most expensive real estate in the world. Your neighbors could be a Rothschild, the co-founder of Microsoft Paul Allen, or theatrical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. Maybe we should have packed higher end, designer walking shoes?
Our group boarded a tram, and then transferred to a public bus in order to make our way to Cap Ferrat. We took up quite a few seats on the bus, and had an enjoyable trip along the coastline! Each day we became more familiar with our travel mates so a crowded bus ended up being a great way to engage in conversation prior to another day of touring!

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild
Thanks to Beatrice de Rothschild and her resilience after a failed marriage and passing father, the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild contains an irreplaceable collection of art, porcelain, furniture, and manicured gardens. She accumulated this through friendships with art dealers and other experts, coupled with her exquisite taste! As we walked through the home, it was an incredible sight, yet eye opening at the same time. Our tour guide would discuss the cost for restoration of the pieces and how it was unimaginable due to price tag and fragile state of a subset of the collection.
Plage des Marinieres (Villefranche-sur-Mer Beach)
We walked by several prominent homes on the way to our lunch, stopping to take pictures of the ornate private gates. Our walk opened up into the Plague des Marinieres, with the views making us believers the French Riviera has the world’s most beautiful coastline. We strolled past families playing, couples relaxing, tiny storefronts, and restaurants with soaring umbrellas to provide shade. We realized this would be our last lunch in France, so we wanted to dine by the water, enjoying the view, a glass of wine, and each other.
Daily Snapshot.
~There is a fair amount of walking today in non-shaded areas. Light clothes, hats, and sunglasses are key!
~Take more pictures than usual in the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild Gardens. Each angle provides such a different perspective, that every step is framing a new shot! ~Don’t pass up an opportunity to eat by the water! |
